Iโm a bit of a substack connoisseur and, as such, I often skim the emails that come through my inbox while brushing my teeth and trying to remember what I needed to grab before leaving the house. But when this poem by Alyson Morgan arrived, time stopped. Alysonโs words felt potent, magical, and like exactly what I needed to hear. I hope these words will be a salve for those who are hurting, and a powerful spell for those who are ready to let go.
a spell for surrender
by Alyson Morgan
to the moonbeams that dismantle,
a moon, eclipsed.
i do not plead, i do not pray, i relinquish.
a witness to the unraveling,
i stand emptied at the threshold,
arms unclenched,
the constrains of perfection,
the strictures of control,
the endless measuring
facades fallen away.
what is leaving, let it leave.
what is unraveling, let it fray.
what is breaking, let it break.
no striving to stitch together
bonds that were never meant to hold.
let it decompose.
i acquiesce to the tide of unmaking.
salt on my lips, eyes wide open.
take, what is no longer mine.
take, what has run its course.
take, what keeps me lacking.
i hold no fear of the void.
i hold no fear of the redirection.
i hold no fear of the unknown.
a moon of farewells,
a moon of seething clarity.
i srrender. i entrust. i forgive.
i return home to myself,
unburdened, unbound, whole.
so it is.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing such great words of wisdom and surrender!
